Starting a website in India can be quick and easy if you pick the right platform. Whether you’re creating a personal website to showcase your art or creations, or trying to create a business website, you’re in the right place.

The reason why I choose website builders is that they are much more beginner-friendly compared to other content management solutions.

Most website builders are also affordable and offer a wide range of built-in template options to design your website. Let’s start.

1. Pick a website builder platform

Website builders are platforms that allow you to create a website while having no knowledge about website creation. You don’t need to have tech or coding knowledge to use them as these builders typically come with a simple drag and drop editor.

Most website builders that operate in India also come with a web hosting solution so you don’t need to worry about getting a separate hosting provider.

It’s the perfect solution for individuals or small business owners who want to start a website without hiring a developer.

Before choosing the perfect builder for your website, here are some of the most important factors to consider:

  • Fast loading speed — popular search engines like Google prefer websites with optimized page speed. Fast loading pages also decrease a website’s bounce rate.
  • Robust security — if you’re creating a website that deals with personal information, choose a website builder that comes with security measures such as SSL certificates.
  • Responsiveness — make sure your website is accessible and works well on any kind of device.
  • Ease of use — look for a builder with a simple interface that offers customizable templates and elements to make it easier for you to build a website.
  • Support — make sure the website builder has 24/7 customer service through live chat or email to solve any issues you might encounter during the website creation process.

Here I’m going to show you how to build a website using Zyro, one of my favorite website builders I’ve found this year.

Despite having launched relatively recently, Zyro stands tall among its competitors by offering affordable plans that come with complete features to build a high-quality website.

Zyro also comes with designer-made templates that come with any plan. The builder has a simple interface, an intuitive drag and drop tool, and a grid system that makes it easy to edit and adjust the templates to your liking.

The platform also offers other features that might be helpful for beginners in the website building scene. There’s an AI writer to generate search engine optimized content copy, a logo maker, and even a slogan generator.

The cheapest Zyro plan starts at $1.99 a month. It comes with decent storage and bandwidth that is good enough for a small personal site.

However, to get more of your website, I’d recommend opting for the Unleashed plan for $2.99 a month. It gives unlimited storage space, a free domain for one year, and Google Analytics integration.

All Zyro plans come with free search engine optimized web hosting and an SSL certificate so you don’t have to worry about security and your website’s speed. There’s also a 24/7 support team ready to help you out.

To build a website with this site builder, simply go to Zyro.com and click on the Get Started button. You can start building right away!

2. Choose a template that fits your website goals and brand image

Thanks to built-in templates, designing a site with website builders is made easy. All you need to do is choose a template that fits the niche of your site and start building.

Most website builders come with fully customizable templates and Zyro is no exception. All Zyro templates are equipped with customizable elements that can be edited through the drag and drop editor.

You can also add new elements such as buttons, images, videos, contact forms, and social icons.

Change the background color, and image of the template and use Zyro’s built-in grid-system to keep the elements more organized.

With Zyro, you get a wide array of stunning template choices for popular website categories. Business, eCommerce, portfolio, you name it.

3. Customize the template design

Once you’ve picked a template design, the next step is to start customizing it to fit the needs of your website.

Before you do this, it’s better to ask yourself a few important questions: what do you want to do with your website? What are your goals? And what kind of features and content is needed on it?

Once you’ve decided on these aspects, customizing should be a piece of cake. If you’re still unsure about what you want, here are some guiding steps that might be helpful:

  • Research other websites with the same niche as yours — whether you’re building a personal or a business website, researching other websites will help you see what features you want and don’t want on it.
  • Decide on your website’s main goal — it’s tempting to set many goals with the first website you’re creating, however, it’s important to set one main goal and focus on achieving it.
  • Focus on UX (user experience) — create a website that’s easy to navigate and gives users a smooth experience when browsing. This includes optimizing the load speed of your pages and so on.

4. Pick a domain name that represents your purpose, business, or personal brand

When you’re done customizing the template, you’ll need to choose a domain name before the website can go live on the internet.

A domain name is the URL address of your website. It’s what people type in their browser to access the site.

Domain names can be any combination of letters and numbers followed by various domain extensions. However, it’s crucial to think thoroughly before picking a domain name since it represents your website as a whole.

Here are some factors that make up a good domain name:

  • It’s short and memorable
  • It has no hyphens
  • There are no numbers
  • It’s followed by popular domain extensions like .com or .net

It might be tricky to find a good domain available within a popular niche, that’s where domain name generators come in handy. These online generators help you come up with the perfect domain by mix-matching popular keywords.

Once you’ve found the perfect match, the next step is to register it with a domain registrar before connecting it to the website. The prices of the domains depend on the extension chosen.

5. Launch your new website

Once you have a domain name registered, it’s time to launch your new site. With Zyro, launching a website only takes a few minutes.

What you need to do is go to the customized template and click on the Publish website button on the upper right corner of the page. If you’ve already signed up for a plan, your site will be ready in an instant.

Make sure to double-check every aspect of the website before launching using the Preview feature of the editor. It lets you see how the template looks like on desktop and mobile when the site is live.

Pro tips to succeed with a brand new website

Now that you have successfully created a website, the next step would be learning how to manage and market it.

Here I’ve listed some tips I’ve found useful when trying to drive traffic to my website:

  • Social media marketing — post links to the website on your social media platforms to gain more exposure and brand awareness.
  • Paid advertising — buy advertising space on search engine result pages to bring in more traffic and leads to your website.
  • Engage in online conversations — create an active online presence to attract a loyal following, engage in popular topics and conversations to get your brand name out there.
  • Create relevant content — it’s important to create content based on relevant keywords to ensure search engines that the website has the relevant information users search for.
  • Optimize it for SEO — maximize the site’s SEO through relevant practices like on-page optimization, and off-page link-building.
  • Install Google Analytics — web analytics tools such as Google Analytics help you better understand users’ behavior and make changes accordingly to improve the site’s performance.

FAQ about website creation in India

Here are some of the most frequently asked questions about website creation in India, and what you need to know in answer to them.

The cost to create a website varies depending on the choices you make during the process. The first cost for a website comes from a domain purchase, pricing depends on the extension you chose. It typically ranges from INR 75 to 602 per year.

The next cost comes from the platform you use to host the website. Whether it’s a web hosting provider or a website builder. Hosting services cost somewhere around INR 59 to 219 a month.

Other costs would come from purchasing a web template and hiring developers or content writers to design and create content for the website.

Yes, you can host your own website. However, it takes a lot of technical expertise to do so. To host your own website, you’ll need a web server that requires a lot of maintenance.

Yes and no, it depends on the route you’re taking. You get to choose whether you want to use easy-to-use solutions like website builders or learn how to code and create a website from scratch using other platforms.
